Establishment

Faculty of Medicine was established as the 6th Faculty of Karadeniz Technical University on 4.1.1973 with Law No. 1650 as the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and its academic staff was allocated. Meanwhile, Hacettepe University established a faculty named Trabzon Faculty of Medicine and administrative staff were allocated to this faculty. Students were admitted to Hacettepe University, Trabzon Faculty of Medicine in the 1976-1977 academic year, and these students continued their education at Hacettepe University. With the decree law no. 41 dated 20.7.1982, KTÜ Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Hacettepe University, Trabzon Faculty of Medicine were merged and named Karadeniz University Faculty of Medicine.

Accreditation

Faculty Pre-Graduation Education was accredited by the National Medical Education Accreditation Board (UTEAK) on 01.01.2013 until 01.01.2019, and as a result of the re-accreditation application, it was accredited again until January 1, 2025.

Faculty Opportunities

The faculty has a CD library, a student reading room, a medical skills and multi-disciplinary student laboratory, and student associations conducting social scientific studies (Scientific Research Society BAT, TurkMSIC). Farabi Hospital, the Training and Practice Hospital of the Faculty, serves as a reference center with a bed capacity of 800. The hospital is the largest, most equipped and advanced hospital in the region.

Exams, Measurement and Evaluation

Exams, measurement and evaluation are carried out according to the regulations issued by the University Senate: In the first three years, in accordance with the integrated education system, oral and multiple choice exams are held at the end of each committee, and final exams are administered at the end of every two semesters. In the 4th and 5th years, students are evaluated with oral, written and practical exams at the end of the internship. At the end of the internship in the 6th year, they are evaluated in terms of attendance and practical proficiency. Grades are evaluated out of 100. It is applied as 86-100 AA, 81-85 BA, 76-80 BB, 66-75 CB, 60-65 CC and 0-59 F3. The credit equivalent of AA, which is the highest grade, is 4.00, BA is 3.5, BB is 3.0, CB is 2.5, CC is 2.0 and F3 is 0.0. Grades between AA and CC are passing grades. In Term 1, 2 and 3, each semester score is calculated by adding 60% of the final exam total and 40% of the final exam. In order for the student to pass the relevant semester, the average score of both semesters must be 60 points out of 100.

Graduation Requirements

Graduation requirements include the same requirements as the degree requirements. To earn the title of Medical Doctor, students must be successful in obtaining at least a CC degree and work as an intern doctor for 12 months in the final year.

Alumni Society

KTU Faculty of Medicine Alumni Association was established on January 8, 2013 and continues its activities. Its activities include providing scholarships to students who have financial difficulties at school and bringing together alumni.
