Automated Breast Ultrasound can complement a mammogram in breast cancer screening for women with dense breast tissue that is healthy or has a benign formation on a mammogram. Patients are placed supine position on a bed for this scan.
A gel is poured on the skin of breast and the probe of ultrasound scanner is moved over the breast. The images shown on screen of the ultrasound device are evaluated and the image is saved, if a suspicious finding is identified.
This scanner can create three different (2 or 4 depending on certain conditions). The three-dimensional image and the data set also allow retrospective evaluation of the breast.
The device scans the breast under supervision of a technician and the resultant 3D images are reviewed by a breast radiologist.
